Understanding Cyberbullying: What It Is and Why It Matters

Understanding Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying happens when someone uses the internet or digital devices to hurt, embarrass or threaten another person. It can happen on social media, messaging apps, online games and other digital platforms.

Examples include sending insulting messages, spreading rumours, sharing private pictures without permission and creating fake accounts to embarrass someone.

Cyberbullying can affect a person's confidence, feelings, friendships and schoolwork. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected online.

We can help prevent cyberbullying by thinking before we post, respecting others, reporting harmful behavior and supporting anyone who is being bullied.
